What a busy first half of the year it has been for Risca Male Choir. As always, the choir has been invited to many functions, weddings and concerts and, of course, we do our very best to fulfil as many engagements as possible. Plans to learn new repertoire pieces and rehearse often have to be put on hold.
The choir appeared recently at a private function at the National Museum of Wales, a wedding in Bassaleg, the official opening of the Toyota World Car Showroom in Cardiff, joining with 950 other choristers from around Wales to sing at the Wales v Barbarians rugby match in Cardiff and finally, on June 24th, the choir appeared as a supporting act at Cwmbran Congress Theatre for a night of songs from the musicals with mike Sterling. There is rarely a dull moment for Risca Male Choir.
As we look forward to the second half of 2011, there is much rehearsing to be done in order to ensure that, wherever the choir appears, we give a top quality performance. Music Director, Martin Hodson always demands the best and is superbly supported by accompanist Julie Bevan. The next half year is equally as busy with many events and concerts already committed to. Further details can be found on our Concert Dates page.
Recently, it was a pleasure to welcome several new choristers as full members of Risca Male Choir with yet more new comers serving their ‘probation’ period. The learning process can seem overwhelming at first, but the rewards are huge. Rehearsals are serious but great fun. Our choir now has over 70 members, but we always encourage potential singers to join us as one of Wales’ premier choirs. New members will always be made very welcome.
