    St. David’s Day Concert

Thursday evening saw the postponed (due to the snow of last week) annual St. David’s Day concert between Risca Male Choir and Risca Primary School choir.

As always there was a distinct Welsh theme to the night with traditional songs such as Llef, Myfanwy, Cwm Rhondda and Men of Harlech from RMC and Sospan Fach from Risca Primary. The programme was devised by MD Geraint Davies together with Alison Thomas, who runs the choir at Risca Primary and is also our accompanist!  To add variety we were treated to songs such as Nella Fantasia and the debut performance of Geraint’s arrangement of I Write The Songs.

Risca Primary Choir were in good voice and performed many of their favourites as well as a brand new Welsh song for this year – The Cowboy Song.  The children particularly enjoyed singing Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus, taking on the challenge of singing in parts and surprising RMC and the audience by appearing from all over the school hall to add to the sound effect.

RMC were down in numbers but not in spirit.  The choir has many choristers away at the moment with illness/holidays but the 26 who were able to attend put on a sterling performance, showing a real quality in the choir and demonstrating Geraint’s ability to create a wonderful sound even from a small number.  Alison’s accompaniment added to the evening which culminated in the Welsh National Anthem with the two choirs joining together to sing.

    Tiny Rebel Success!

On Saturday 3rd February Risca Male Choir were proud to link up with local brewery ‘Tiny Rebel’ in Rogerstone to perform traditional rugby tunes before the Welsh match against Scotland as the crowd gathered.   A successful afternoon for the choir performing to a packed bar which welcomed the Welsh voices, followed by a social for the men of the choir whilst watching the game.  Tiny Rebel shared a clip of RMC singing on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages and it has so far received (combined) over 7000 views!
